More party pics

We're having a quiet weekend at home, after all of last week's excitement. It was really wonderful having Pud (J.'s mom) and Papa (my dad) in town for the party and birthday. I've included a photo of the gorgeous spot where we had the party and Jack and Sadie's cake. We also got some great pictures of Jack and Papa.
It was a great birthday, and all the more special because we were surrounded by friends and family. We're lucky to be bringing Sadie and Jack up in such a great community and family. We love you guys!

Happy Birthday
Tomorrow (the 21st) is Sadie and Jack's first birthday. We had a party for them on Saturday in Griffith Park. It was a beautiful afternoon and wonderful to celebrate their birthday with our honored guests, Pud (J.'s mom, Charlene) and Papa (my dad, Peter). Jeff and Emily catered the party with the Kwong Dynasty Noodle Fantasy and I made carrot cupcakes for the kids and gingerbread cake for the adults. It was so nice to spend an afternoon with so many of our wonderful friends.
It's kind of amazing to have made it to this point. Jack and Sadie's first year was so intimidating when I was pregnant. It was hard to imagine how we were going to survive it. But we are more than just surviving; our family is doing great. Jack continues to get endless joy out of simply living and Sadie is ready to take on the world. J. and I have a great time with them, and if we could just find an answer to the never ending to-do list it would be Shangri-La.
Our cuties are one, and there is whole new set of adventures ahead!

Goodbye Sleep
Jack and Sadie started to pull themselves to standing this week. Jack, in particular, is very proud of himself for this accomplishment. On Friday night they realized that they could pull themselves up in their cribs. All of our sleep training apparently flew out the window with this new development. Instead of 10 to 20 minutes to fall asleep, this weekend it's taking Sadie and Jack hours to go down. It's exciting to see them standing, but it's also a whole new world of challenges. Everyday this weekend we removed objects or pieces of furniture from the nursery that had become hazards. Even with these measures there was a lot of falls and crying. Hopefully they will get a little sturdier on their feet and the novelty of standing will wear off soon.
On the bright side, it is pretty damn cute to see them standing and facing each other in their cribs. Before the complete and utter exhaustion sets in, we'll peek into the nursery and see them standing face-to-face in their cribs and giggling.
