DINOSAUR!!!

I took the day off on Sunday to go hiking with friends, while J. watched the kids. They spent the afternoon at the Natural History museum and got to see the giant dinosaur puppet above, which elicited the reactions below.

From the looks of it, the kids' day with daddy was quite a success.

Happy Father's Day!

The kids and I gave J. 24 hours off to celebrate Father's Day. J. got to relax at hotel last night while we had a quiet night at home. We took advantage of the morning to go for a hike in Debs Park with my friends Ellen and Tamarind. Calling it a "hike" might be optimistic - we made it about 200 feet in 45 minutes and then decided to turn back. The kids did find this great climbing tree. Jack could not have been happier to climb up and down the limbs. I met one of the other mother's at the kids' preschool the other day, and when I explained who my kids were, she said "Oh, your son is always on top of something when I arrive to pick up my daughter." Yep, our son is a climber to be sure.

Back in the Saddle

We took the family for an outing to the Palos Verdes street fair this weekend. There were pony rides, a petting zoo, carnival rides, and a Steely Dan revue. Who could ask for more? We started with the pony rides, which were a big hit with both kids, although Sadie's world came to crashing halt when it was time to get off her pony. Sadie had a full melt down. Fortunately there was a miniature horse and alpacas at the petting zoo and we were able to convince her that the petting zoo was almost as good as the pony rides. She did try to mount the miniature horse numerous times, but was luckily unsuccessful.

We finished up the afternoon with a walk through the fun house and a little Steely Dan. Jack was extremely excited to get to watch Pretzel Logic, the Steely Dan cover band, from his dad's shoulders. He definitely enjoys music. The kids last experience of the street fair was being introduced to a fully clothed dog wearing sunglasses and a hat. At that point it became clear that it was time to go home and say farewell to our best street fair yet.
