Dining Out

l
Meal times with the kids have become a bit tough. In general the kids are good eaters, but as they approach two years old they're becoming more picky about food. The hardest part is you never know what they'll like from one day to the next. One day they love chicken - the next day they'll have nothing to do with it. Without much language to express these feelings they express them by spitting food out, throwing food on the floor, rubbing food in their hair, etc. As a result we've starting dining out more. The kids are more likely to eat when they are distracted by a new environment and we're more likely to enjoy ourselves if we know that someone else has to deal with cleanup. I always have a little bit of guilt about the carnage left behind on restaurant floors after we're done, but I try to make up for it by being a big tipper.

The photos above are from a few weeks ago at Twoeey's. Twoeey's is the kind of restaurant we would have avoided before having kids - the food is mediocre and the decor leaves a lot to be desired, BUT, man, are they family-friendly. They were so nice about our two wild children climbing all over the booth, eating their crayons, and starting a small trash dump on the floor below their highchairs. As a result we'll definitely be visiting Twoeey's again soon!

The exposure is terrible, but I couldn't resist posting this super sweet picture of Sadie and her cousin Jasper. Kara, Rich, and Jasper came to visit last Friday. The kids got to have play time in the nursery, lunch and then a trip to the playground together. Sadie's showing off her xylophone to Jasper here. Jasper was digging the xylophone.

It's pretty rad that Jack and Sadie have some cousins around their own age on the Rysman side. I think it may be time to start planning another Rysman family vacation again soon. Although post-February I would like to spend the rest of 2010 grounded, so let's plan for 2011!

Twin-ness

We normally try not to emphasize Jack and Sadie's twin-ness. Let's face it - twins are a little freaky. It's not that we don't think that twins are amazing, it's just that there is nothing natural about twins. People are not meant to have litters of kids, and kids are not meant to be brought up in litters. That said, it is totally amazing to see Sadie and Jack in the tub cracking each other up, or dancing circles around each other before bed. Or, as in this picture, living their lives in sync.

Jack and Sadie do not have a secret language, or sleep in the same crib, or intuitively know when the other one is sick, but they do always have a playmate and a partner in crime.

BTW, that's their friend Mimi's head popping up in the corner. Sadie and Jack swiped those drinks from Mimi.

Family Photos

Here are some family pics from our trip to Delaware and New Jersey. Somehow we didn't end up with any pictures of the kids with Ross, Libby, Tommy or Pud. It's odd how you can forget to take pictures of the people you're spending the most time with. The kids are also at an age where it's hard to catch their best moments in still photos, such as Sadie's utter amusement with Tommy's exaggerated sighs after taking a sip of water or Jack's obsession with the foyer at Mum and Pup's. Jack and Sadie are just starting to become aware of cameras. Hopefully they'll learn to hold still for a moment for photos soon!

First Snow

Gees, I've been delinquent about posting on the blog. Sorry about that. I have a number of photos from our Christmas trip to post. Jack and Sadie got to experience their first snow while we were in Delaware. It was pretty damn exciting for them. Sadie even started saying the word "snow." It may be a while before they see snow again, but they'll always have their memories.
